Nick Kyrgios, the controversial Australian tennis player, recently shared some exciting news with his followers on Instagram. Following an impressive season on the ATP Tour, he continues to excite fans with his Insta posts. While his on-court performances have been a treat to watch, fans often flood the stadium to catch a glimpse of his antics as well. Thus, when he recently hinted at a possible partnership for an exciting tennis match with Novak Djokovic, we can surely expect some fun banter on the court.
Kyrgios had been eager to partner with Novak Djokovic in doubles. When he mentioned that a potential alliance might be in the works earlier this week at the Indian Wells Open, it raised some eyebrows. Will one of the most exciting matchups in recent memory happen in the near future?

Kyrgios hints at a possible partnership with Novak Djokovic
The usually icy friendship between Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic has warmed up in the past few months. The Aussie had often spoken in the defence of the former world no. 1 during the drawn-out visa cancellation drama in Australia, earlier this year. The Djokovic family was also incredibly appreciative of the Kyrgios family for having the bravery to defend Djokovic. Kyrgios recently excited his fans when he shared the possibility of playing tighter with The Serb on his Instagram post. However, the possibility of a doubles partnership between Kyrgios and Djokovic in 2023 remains unknown.

He captioned his Insta post, ” new doubles pair this year…😋👀 Loading.. you ready??!!” The Nole was quick to reply with an affirmative answer, as he posted strong arm emojis.

This year, Djokovic was not allowed to compete in the US Open and the three US Masters events held in Indian Wells, Miami, and Cincinnati. In 2023, should the authorities decide to amend their vaccination policy and allow unvaccinated foreigners to enter the United States, Djokovic could compete in Indian Wells and other US championships once again. Ever since the Australian supported the Serb throughout the Australia visa problem, their ‘bromance’ has grown exponentially.
This isn’t the first time Kyrgios has teamed up with an elite tennis player. Kyrgios has previously teamed up with Venus Williams in mixed doubles at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Williams and Kyrgios defeated Austin Krajicek and Sabrina Santamaria of the United States in three sets in their opening round match. Sadly, Kyrgios was forced to leave the tournament due to an abdominal ailment.

Kyrgios shares a unique bond with ‘The Nole’
Compared to the contentious figure Kyrgios cuts now, he was a more restrained individual when he first met Djokovic. They’ve only played thrice so far. Kyrgios admitted that he was excited to face this opponent, the 21-time Grand Slam Champion.

Kyrgios has a 2-1 advantage in the head-to-head series after winning both of their previous encounters (both on hard courts) in straight sets. After winning their quarterfinal encounter by a score of 7-6, 7-5 in Acapulco, the Australian defeated the Serb once more by a score of 6-4, 7-6 in the round of 16 matches at Indian Wells in 2017. However, Djokovic triumphed on the biggest stage, beating Kyrgios to win Wimbledon in four sets of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3).
