Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios is among the best performers on the tour currently. This year was by far his best as we saw him make it to the Grand Slam final for the first time. Every year at the end of the season, Tennis Australia celebrates its top performers. The best Australian player of the year gets the Newcombe Medal. The list of seven nominees is out now. Kyrgios deservedly features in the list. However, the ever-so-vocal Nick Kyrgios feels that there’s no need to have a nomination.

At least his tweets suggest that the 27-year-old is confident of winning the award. Here’s what happened.
Nick Kyrgios wants the Newcombe Medal straight away
There’s no doubt that Nick Kyrgios has been the peak performer from Australia in tennis this year. Apart from his extremely successful grass season, the 27-year-old did make it to the top rounds in other tournaments consistently. Seven tennis players Ash Barty, Alex De Minaur, Matt Ebden, Storm Hunter, Nick Kyrgios, Max Purcell & Ajla Tomljanovic are in contention to get the Newcombe Medal.

However, Kyrgios had a rather confident reaction to the news that there’s no one else who deserves it more than him this year. Reacting to the list of contenders, he wrote, “cmon now” with sleepy emoticons..
Although he has done reasonably well, the 27-year-old is still looking to win his first Grand Slam title. On the other hand, Ash Barty did win the Australian Open this year but declared her retirement from tennis later and didn’t feature in the remainder of the tour.
Kyrgios wants the ATP Coach of the year award too
Kyrgios has been one of the best entertainers both on and off the court. One might not like his tantrums on the court, but we surely can not ignore the fact that the Aussie is never shy about providing drama and entertainment. Kyrgios has claimed an award that even his fans wouldn’t have asked for. The 27-year-old wants the award for the best coach of the year. The Aussie believes he deserves the award as he was without a coach when he made it to his first Wimbledon Championships final this year.

Although it’s not a serious claim from the Aussie and he only intended it jokingly, he really did a remarkable job to finish as the finalist without a coach in Wimbledon.
