After Multiple Failed SW19 Final Outings Against Roger Federer, Andy Roddick Reaches Out to Ons Jabeur – ‘More Faith in You Winning Wimbledon Than..’

During his illustrious journey in the men’s circuit, Andy Roddick amassed 32 singles ATP titles which also includes his lone Grand Slam triumph in New York. However, it was the grass-court major tournament that has always been a bittersweet experience for the American tennis legend as he came close to clinching it on three occasions. And it was the same player,  Roger Federer who didn’t let him taste any success on the Centre Court, outclassing the 40-year-old in the 2004, 2005, and 2009 Wimbledon Championships.

Now, being a three-time finalist in the British Slam himself, the former tennis ace pretty much understands the situation of the WTA star, Ons Jabeur. Just like Roddick, the Tunisian tennis star recently came close to winning the prestigious tournament, however, was outperformed in the championship match. Taking note of her her heartbreaking defeat, the former American tennis player has now come forward to showcase his support to the current Wimbledon finalist.

The Tunisian tennis star, Ons Jabeur recently aroused the excitement of many fans during her remarkable campaign in the British Slam. She started the grass-court major event by outclassing some of the top guns including the WTA stars, Bianca Andreescu and Petra Kvitová in the initial round matches. The 28-year-old continued her stellar run as she further stunned the second and third-seeded players, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina in the quarter and semifinal rounds of the competition.

However, despite these incredible performances, the former world No. 2 couldn’t mark her fairytale triumph on the Centre Court as she was thumped by Markéta Vondroušová in straight sets. (6-4, 6-4). Her heartbreaking defeat was grieved by the entire tennis community including the American tennis star, Andy Roddick.

In his blog for Betway, according to a Tweet from the Tennis Letter, the 40-year-old tennis legend revealed how he sent a heartfelt text to the WTA player after her defeat in London. It stated, “‘If you ever want to chat, I’ve been where you are now. But I have more faith in you winning Wimbledon than I ever had in myself winning it.’”

In the process, the former tennis ace candidly spoke about his expectations for the currently ranked world No. 5 player’s success in the Grand Slam events.

Roddick wants the WTA star to win a major title

In the same blog, the former US Open champion expressed his desire to witness the 28-year-old player mark a major triumph on the court. Roddick said, “She’s someone I really hope wins a Grand Slam one day.”

Further, the ATP legend also emphasized her recent injury which has come as a huge concern for Ons Jabeur ahead of her participation in the US Open. Speaking about the same, Roddick advised the Tunisian to not rush her recovery as she should slowly prepare herself prior to the forthcoming Grand Slam event in New York.
