Serena Williams’ former coach, Rennae Stubbs, revealed her thoughts about the return of Holger Rune and Patrick Mouratoglou’s collaboration. Boris Becker stepped down as Holger Rune’s head coach in January. Following this development, rumors about Stubbs coming forward to take the responsibility spread. However, refuting all the gossip, Williams’ ex-coach announced on social media that it wasn’t true.

Fans thought Swiss legend Roger Federer’s coach, Severin Luthi, would be Holger Rune’s new coach. However, fans’ attention shifted to Rennae Stubbs when it didn’t work out. Now that Mouratoglou finally cleared the air with his presence in the scene, Stubbs delved deeper into the matter.

In her recent podcast, Rennae Stubbs said, “No, I am not coaching him, but if I were, I think that would be a good choice. But anyway, the whole point is he has gone back to Patrick Mouratoglou, so it’s like he feels comfortable with him, I don’t know. It’s a surprise to me. We literally having dinner about talking about this the other night that we didn’t think that’s gonna happen for various reasons. I don’t know why he’s going back, but as I said, result, for sure we’ll see what will happen.”

Rennae Stubbs’s statement expressed a confusing opinion about Rune’s choice to return to his former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou. This partnership helped Rune in 2022 when he won the Paris Masters title. At that tournament, Rune defeated Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic. However, after February 2023, Rune had a horrible season, as he had to exit the US Open in the first round. Stubbs questioned Rune’s decision to get back to the same partnership on that basis.

What launched the rumors?

After Becker’s official announcement of resigning as Rune’s head coach, Stubbs came forward and jokingly tweeted that she would be happy to lend her advice to the Danish player. Stubbs said on X: “@holgerrune2003 I have some time up my sleeve..” This was when the rumor started that Stubbs might be Rune’s next head coach after Becker’s resignation. One reliable tennis broadcasting source also questioned the topic. However, refuting the rumors, Studds posted: “I have been sent this by MANY people asking “is this true?” No it’s not! I don’t know who put this out but you’re a bunch of 🤡 to do so with zero proof. My god!”

Stubbs’s comment about Rune’s return to Patrick Mouratoglou expressed that this veteran coach admires the Danish tennis prodigy. She wishes to see Rune going to the top of the ATP ranking. However, she also keeps her hopes high and watches the duo helping Rune regain his best form.
