During their prime period on the tour, Venus and Serena Williams were in a league of their own. While marking a combined 30 singles Grand Slam triumphs, the American tennis sisters have both reached the number 1 spot in the WTA rankings. As they carved out a stellar legacy, the WTA icons also became a part of a prestigious club involving other American women’s tennis legends with major glories.

Joining the Williams sisters in the elite list, Coco Gauff recently secured his maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open. Aiming to emulate the WTA superstars’ remarkable feats, the former world No. 5 recently brought to light his ‘grand’ vision.

Taylor Fritz on how Coco Gauff and Serena Williams serve as an inspiration

In an interview with C Magazine, the ATP sensation recently opened up about how Coco Gauff is now carrying the American Grand Slam legacy. Prior to the tennis prodigy, Taylor Fritz asserted it was the Williams sisters who were carrying their country flag for a really long time in the tennis community.

However, on the men’s side, it’s not the same case as there is a two-decade-long major title drought. The US Open championship was won by veteran tennis player Andy Roddick in 2003; no other American has won any major title since.

Emphasizing the same, the current world No. 10 recently spoke about how it would be great to see any American ATP player marking a Grand Slam triumph and also achieve the number 1 ranking status on the tour. Fritz said, “It would be great to see someone on the men’s side winning Grand Slams and contending for the number-one spot in the world.”
