The former coach of eight-time Grand Slam champion Brad Gilbert has broken his silence on the contentious Hungarian Open incident.
The Chinese player Shuai Zhang was tied with her opponent at 5-5, 30-30 in the first set. She asked to check the ball mark which was ruled out as out by the chair umpire. As she went to the net to check the ball mark, her opponent, Hungarian player Kiara Toth, went and cleared the ball mark with her shoes. Feeling a sense of injustice, Zhang retired from the match and Toth celebrated in full glory after the results.

The incident has derived an outcry from the tennis realm bu condemning the Hungarian player for her unsportsmanlike conduct. However, that was not enough, and the Hungarian player later condemned Zhang for overreacting and creating “trouble for herself.”
But seems like Toth has created trouble for herself. Many WTA stars have sided with Zhang and have empathized with her take.

WTA comes in unison to support Shuai Zhang
Shuai Zhang maintained her integrity till the end. Even after retiring, she shook hands with the umpire and her opponent and went away peacefully.
Tennis player Ajla Tomljanovic bashed Kiara Toth for her “disgusting behavior.” Apart from her, the former coach of Serena Williams, Rennae Stubbs, took a dig at the chair umpire who could not handle the situation. Australian tennis player Ellen Perez also condemned Toth’s “disrespect” towards the game and her opponent.
