In 2019, Andy Murray and Serena Williams paired for mixed doubles at the Wimbledon Championships. The two reached the third round at the grass courts of SW19. Walking in the footsteps of their siblings, Jamie Murray and Andy Murray have entered the mixed doubles of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.

The two have kicked off their campaign with a three-set thriller in the first-round win. Looking at Jamie and Venus, Andy Murray went back in time, recalling his 2019 Wimbledon campaign with Serena Williams.

Andy Murray recalls his mixed doubles campaign with Serena Williams

Along with being one of the most prominent players on the tour, Andy Murray is also an active social media user, especially Instagram. He largely uses his social media handles to share his tennis engagements. Yesterday, the 1st of June, Murray took to his Instagram handle, uploading a story. In the story, the Brit shared Wimbledon’s post about the Murray and the Williams siblings.

The original post of Wimbledon was a photo collage. Divided into two parts, the above part featured a photo of the pair of Andy Murray and Serena Williams at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships while the lower part featured a photo of the pair of Jamie Murray and Venus Williams at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. The Championships captioned the post “🇺🇸 Williams 🤝 Murray 🇬🇧”.

Wimbledon further took to the comment section of the post, and wrote, “Just the 2️⃣9️⃣ Wimbledon titles between this quartet (and counting…) 🏆”.

The performance of the two pairs

Going back in time, fans had a moment of joy when Serena and Murray announced their pairing. The two kicked off their campaign with a straight-set win in the first and second rounds. However, things turned around when the two faced the top seeded pair of Bruno Soares and Nicole Melichar-Martinez. Even though the two gave their best shot, it was the top seeded pair who eventually triumphed in straight sets.

Walking in the shoes of their siblings, Jamie and Venus have also kicked off their campaign with a first-round win. The two are next set to face the all-Brit pair of Alicia Barnett and Jonny O’Mara.
