ATP Acapulco: Alex de Minaur Sacrifices Party as Boyfriend Duties Take Precedence

Alex de Minaur has showcased his dominance as he clinched the Mexico Open title. While the triumph in Acapulco called for massive celebrations, the Australian star kept those aside as he turned to his boyfriend duties. A few days ago, Minaur revealed how tough it’s being away from his girlfriend Katie Boulter on February 14. But, now, as she enters the final, Alex de Minaur seems to have a bigger responsibility as he aims to display his support at San Diego and spend some time with his significant other. 

This weekend could turn out to be a fairytale for the tennis couple if Boulter manages to claim her second WTA Tour title at the San Diego Open on Sunday. Demon‘ delivered in Acapulco and now, it is time for Boulter to shine. The 25-year-old Australian tennis star recently showed his dominance at Arena GNP Seguros by defeating Casper Ruud. It took him just under 2 hours to seal the deal by a 6-4,6-4 margin on Saturday. With this victory, he has now become the first man in 12 years to successfully retain the title in Acapulco. But the celebrations have been put on hold as of now.

Alex de Minaur commented, “I can’t make the party tonight because I have a 6 am flight to catch as I want to watch Katie play the final in San Diego tomorrow.” The Australian has often spoken highly of how supportive his girlfriend has been throughout his journey. During an interview with Esquire Magazine, he stated, “She teaches me to enjoy life, enjoy the process, not let results dictate your life.

He revealed how at times he has been very hard on himself after the losses and how Katie Boulter helped him learn to enjoy little moments in life and forget all the negative thoughts. Alex de Minaur believes his girlfriend has played a crucial role in letting him see good things about life off the court.

Katie Boulter was also seen celebrating Alex de Minaur’s Top 10 breakthrough a few days ago. She said no man deserves it more than Alex and called it as this is only just the beginning of good things. Alex De Minaur also shared an optimistic outlook for the season.

This victory in Acapulco not only ended his four-match losing streak in the finals but also clinched his 8th ATP Tour title. Interestingly, 7 out of those 8 have come from the hard courts. Here’s what the number 9 said after the match, “Acapulco has been a very good place for me, for my tennis career. (It’s the) first time I’ve won a 500 (title) and, first time I’ve defended my title in my career. I feel at home here and it’s a great place to be.

He added that it has been an amazing week so far for him and he thinks the finals was his best match of the tournament. “2024 has been nice for me. It’s only the start but hopefully we can keep it going,” Alex De Minaur.
