ATP and WTA to Come Together for a New Star Studded Event

Emma Raducanu has been in the news ever since her US Open exploits last season. She defeated Leylah Fernandez in the final to win her maiden Grand Slam title. Recently, another exciting news featuring the British star has been making the rounds as the ATP and the WTA are set to join forces for a special tournament.

The men’s tennis governing body has organized the ATP Cup every year since its inauguration in 2020. It is a national team event where some of the top players in the world participate in the lead-up to the Australian Open. However, a new tournament is set to replace the ATP Cup.

ATP and WTA join forces for the ‘United Cup’

Tennis is set to launch a new ATP and WTA mixed event at the start of the season in Australia. The United Cup will replace the ATP Cup, offering top men and women the opportunity to represent their countries together.

The tournament will see some exciting pairings taking shape. The likes of Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu will feature in this new tournament. There will be huge prize money on offer for players competing in the tournament. Additionally, it will be an ideal warm-up event just before the Australian Open, as it will take place in various cities across Australia before the inaugural major tournament of the season.

Emma Raducanu endures a disastrous US Open campaign

Last week, the British tennis star lost in the opening round of the US Open. It was a heartbreaking defeat for Raducanu, going down against the unseeded French star, Alize Cornet. In a match lasting an hour and 42 minutes, Cornet got the better of Raducanu in straight sets of 6-3 6-3.

Further, being the defending champion at this year’s US Open, Raducanu had to defend 2000 ranking points. However, her opening-round loss will have a huge impact on her WTA ranking.
