The first event of the 2025 season, the United Cup is fast approaching. Considered a key event in the lead-up to the Australian Open, the multi-national event will see top players from across the globe battle it out for national pride. It looks like Team USA has already set the ball rolling and made an early arrival Down Under. Boasting a strong squad, it includes players like Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff, who will be keen to hit the ground in style. Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff have it to bring home a title. But before that, a compatriot called them out on social media.
Ahead of the start of the tournament, Team USA was involved in a bonding session on a beach. During that session, the likes of Gauff and Fritz were seen enjoying several activities like a helicopter ride and a gentle walk on the beach. However, during that session, they got their fashion choices all wrong.
Gauff and Fritz were spotted sporting shoes while spending the evening on the beach. This led to their compatriot, Reilley Opelka hilariously mocking the duo. As their picture went viral on social media, Opelka commented, “Who wears shoes on a beach?” Further, it led to a hilarious banter between Opelka and Fritz. The latter defended his fashion choices and responded, “didn’t feel like getting sandy to take a photo.”

Meanwhile, Gauff and Fritz are no strangers to each other, having also paired up at the Paris Olympics earlier this year. However, they lost a narrow quarterfinal tie there against the Canadian pair of Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabrielle Dabrowski in the match tie-breaker to finish outside the medal contention. Nonetheless, the two would look to surprise their fans when they team up for the United Cup.
Ahead of the start of the 2025 season, American legend, Andy Roddick is confident about Gauff’s performance next year. He made his predictions clear as Gauff navigated through the tough 2024 year on a high.
Andy Roddick confident in Coco Gauff’s 2025 run
Over the 2024 season, Coco Gauff had a glaring weakness in her game, her serve. Time and again, she committed a host of double faults at crucial junctures to miss out on winning opportunities. However, she ended her season on a high by winning the WTA Finals title, something which Roddick feels is crucial going into the 2025 season.
During his Served podcast, Roddick said, “I am weirdly more impressed with this year than what she has done at the best of times. Because if this is how she deals with tough times, when it starts rolling at the beginning of the year, getting that win against Iga [Swiatek, at the finals] which is her toughest match-up, is a big, big deal.Props to Coco. All of us dummies who question stuff, she is going to be fine, great. I can’t wait for 2025, she has had some time in the off-season to make grip adjustments on the serve.”
However, Gauff would have to be mindful of not committing the same errors that she made last season. Can 2025 be the season for Coco Gauff? Let us know your views in the comments below.
