Thirty-six-year-old Novak Djokovic scripted history and engraved his name in golden letters in the annals of tennis folklore by becoming the first man to win 23 grand slam titles. And going by his current form, he has no intentions of stopping. As we head toward Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic looks to be in pole position to extend his record-breaking major count to 24. The Serb has won a whopping 7 Wimbledon titles in his illustrious career. However, the defending champion Novak Djokovic couldn’t be spotted for long in Wimbledon’s recently released promo video. Instead, younger players like Coco Gauff occupied more screen time in the video in comparison to the Serb. Many fans found this to be disrespectful towards Djokovic.

Fans are not happy with Novak Djokovic being ignored in Wimbledon promo

When Novak Djokovic won his record 23rd major at Roland Garros, he became the focal point of every discussion in the tennis world. Naturally, many people expected Novak Djokovic to be at the forefront of the promotions of Wimbledon, slated to begin on the 3rd of July. But when the latest promo of Wimbledon 2023 dropped, many fans were enraged as they thought that the Serb hadn’t been represented properly in the promo. Younger players like Coco Gauff and Nick Kyrgios were given more priority in the video, according to them.

Many fans quickly brought up their grievances regarding the issue on Twitter.

One user questioned why Coco Gauff was given more screen time than Novak Djokovic.

A fan was not happy about Gauff being presented in Wimbledon’s promotional video, along with legends of the game.

Another user called out the ‘PR’ team of Wimbledon for their ‘shameful’ display.

One fan, however, defended Wimbledon’s decision of sidelining Djokovic.

A user theorized why Djokovic should have been the priority instead of Coco Gauff.

One labeled it to be a ‘crazy’ decision on the part of Wimbledon.

Another fan dissed Gauff for failing to make a mark in big events and yet getting all the attention.

A user pointed out the unfair distribution of screen time among the players shown in the video.

The wrath against young Coco Gauff seemed never-ending.

Amid all the hullabaloo, Djokovic chases more history at Wimbledon

Despite all the discussions going on around Novak Djokovic being snubbed from the Wimbledon promotions, he will look to continue his winning run heading into the event. The 23-time grand slam champion will hope to clinch a record-equaling 8th Wimbledon title this year. His long-time rival Roger Federer currently sits at the top with 8 Wimbledon victories, the highest by any male in the singles category. Djokovic is also undefeated in Wimbledon since 2017, when he was forced to retire against Tomas Berdych due to injury. He has won 4 Wimbledon titles on the trot ever since.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the 36-year-old has become almost invincible in SW19 in recent years. Therefore, grand slam number 24 looks all the more imminent.
