Tennis courts are no strangers to surprises, and this year was no exception! From the iconic partnership of Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic to the unexpected split between Iga Swiatek and Tomasz Wiktorowski, the tennis world kept fans on their toes. And just when you thought the surprises were over, tennis’ favorite power couple, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa, are here to shake things up! As the offseason buzzes with anticipation for the next season, Tsitsipas and Badosa are set to dive into an exciting new challenge that’s already turning heads.
Badosa and Tsitsipas ended their professional season under different circumstances this year. While the WTA Star concluded her year early owing to health issues and withdrew from the Pacific Open in Tokyo, her beau faced a defeat at the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters to end his year. But now, they are gearing up for the next season, and what better way than challenging each other on the tennis courts?
The Greek tennis star took to his Instagram account to share an update on a clash between him and Badosa on December 16. “I would like to make a sweet announcement for all of you. On December 16th, me and Paula will be facing on the tennis court. I would like you to join because we will be throwing an Instagram live. It’s going to be pretty exciting because Paula has been throwing some slack around that she is gonna beat me and I would like you to witness it.” Continuing further, he highlighted his desire to win handsomely in the match and prove his mettle against his belle.

“I have faith and believe in her but at the same time, I want to prove her wrong,” Tsitsipas added in the video. This latest announcement is quite interesting given the fact that Badosa and Tsitsipas are often seen on the same sides of the net helping and supporting each other to win accolades.

For the unversed, Tsitsipas and Badosa participated in the Fan Week preceding the first week of the US Open and defeated Ben Shelton and Coco Gauff to take the Mixed Madness trophy home. Besides, the couple also detailed how they manage tennis, plus a successful relationship. “We have learned how to fight, how to accept difficult situations, and try and grow through them,” Tsitsipas shared about his relationship. Badosa too, reflected similar sentiments and added, “Lately, I’ve been playing very well and I’m happy off-court as well with Stef. You can see the relationship, it’s just going very natural.”

Speaking about her closeness with Tsitsipas, Badosa said, “He is a person who empathizes a lot. He has been there in almost all my bad moments and has been a great support for me.” Continuing further, she went on to share the key reason about why she thinks their relationship works perfectly. “We have something that is also very beautiful in a couple, which is to admire the other. We respect and admire each other a lot. Hearing those words from a great athlete like him motivates me. That your partner believes in you also helps.” However, this bond might take a backseat when they face each other on Monday, although momentarily.
For now, it would be interesting to see how the match unfolds. Will Tsitsipas be able to prove Badosa wrong? Well, only time will tell.
