Although Monfils discussed his possible retirement, he didn’t fail to laud his wife’s efforts. The French player even stated that watching his wife’s comeback, he felt inspired by watching her play and come back to form bit by bit.

The French player has given his fans immense entertainment every time he has stepped up to the court. He has kept viewers happy with his acrobatic athletic abilities, but it is likely he won’t be able to keep up due to continuous injuries. Out of the Citi Open in round three, Monfils walked away from a tournament after another disappointment.

After his match, it seems that he might be seriously considering retirement this time. The player returned to the tournament after a hiatus due to injury at the Miami Open. In an interview with Racquet Mag, he talked about the possible future of his career.

“Yeah, I don’t know. Because of many things. Age. As I always said, comeback after an injury is demanding mentally and physically. Physically, of course, we are all ready to work and be disciplined, but mentally, to get back again into this hard process when you get older is tougher.”

He further stated, And then also, the youngsters are playing really good. It’s really tough to be out there and compete with them. So, I hope it’s going to be a few years, but it can be shorter than that as well. So, I’m prepared for both sides.”

Although he is mulling over the possible end of his career, Monfils does not forget to praise his wife over her comebacks.
