With 94 ATP singles titles, Novak Djokovic has undoubtedly solidified his position as a legendary figure in the men’s circuit. But that doesn’t put an end to his quest for more success on the court, as the Serbian tennis star is still as eager as ever. It was also evident in his four-hour, 42-minute Wimbledon final clash against the 20-year-old player, Carlos Alcaraz. During the nail-biting matchup on the Center Court, the currently ranked world No. 2 player was showing a lot of emotion. It was evident that he badly wanted to clinch his 8th British Slam title.

Even though it didn’t happen in the end, the 36-year-old legend’s ‘fighting spirit’ won the hearts of many in the tennis community. Which included Iga Swiatek, who has always idolized his arch-rival, Rafael Nadal. Despite being a staunch fan of the Spaniard, the Polish tennis star was all praises for him while she also drew some parallels between her and the Serb.

Iga Świątek recently hailed Novak Djokovic while making a comparison with him

In an exclusive interview with Przeglad Sportowy, Iga Świątek was asked if she thinks that the Serb should satiate himself with his current position at the top of the Grand Slam tally in the tennis circuit. The Polish tennis star, however, believes that the 36-year-old tennis legend is still keen to mark more triumphs on the court.

Having won 4 singles major titles herself, the WTA player seemingly understands very well the reigning French Open champion’s strong mentality. Speaking about the same, the 22-year-old tennis star drew some similarities in their ‘competitive’ mindsets. She said, I think we have competition in our blood. Me, when I play matches, I don’t think about statistics and records.”

Świątek made her stance clear that she has always been eager to win more while being unbothered by the current statistics and records. And the 4 singles Grand Slam champion also believes it is very much the same case with her male counterpart, Djokovic. She added, “It was definitely his goal, but I will admit that it’s always like we want to go out for the match and win it.”

Ever since her debut in the women’s circuit, the 22-year-old player has never held herself back from expressing her admiration for her idol, Rafael Nadal. Just like the Spaniard, Świątek is also regarded as a resounding figure in the clay court major event, given her 3 major singles titles in Paris.

In light of this, she was asked about the “similarities” between her and Nadal’s clay court legacies. Just like her idol has got the moniker of the ‘King of the Clay,’ the Polish tennis star also suggested that she might build an ‘Iga Dynasty’ in Paris. However, it won’t be the same as the 37-year-old tennis legend’s supremacy as she said, “But, no, like Rafa, what he did and what he’s still doing, it’s pretty amazing.”
