Despite Davis Cup Glory, Jannik Sinner Downplays the Achievement as He Talks Up ‘Most Important Battle’ for Distressed Compatriot

Italy’s Jannik Sinner stole all the limelight this year with his incredible performance both at the 2023 ATP Finals and Davis Cup Finals. While the latter brought him victory, Sinner concentrated more on Tathiana Garbin’s saddening story. Garbin captained Italy’s tennis team during the Billie Jean King Cup. However, Italy couldn’t bag the victory this time. But that is another story to tell.

Tathiana Garbin issued a statement expressing that she is undergoing a rare stomach tumor which truly made her fans quite sad. Now after the Davis Cup 2023 victory, Sinner prioritized this Italian tennis star’s struggle with physical issues while leading Italy’s team in a prestigious tennis tournament.

While Italy lost to Canada at the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, fans are more concerned about Italy’s captain Tathiana Garbin’s rare stomach tumor. Garbian captained Italy for the Billie Jean King Cup since 2016. However, Garbian will go through more stressful situations in the coming weeks due to her treatment.

Now referring to Garbin’s health issues, Italy’s star and Davis Cup 2023 winner Jannik Sinner issued a statement in a press conference. Here, Sinner said- “This victory is important for me and for Italy, we felt the pressure. We had a lot of responsibility but we did it. Then here we talk about writing history and winning the Davis Cup, but the most important battle will be played by Tathiana Garbin tomorrow.”

After the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, Garbin herself issued a statement about her health problems. While she thanked her federation for their enormous support, she hopes to raise more medical awareness. Garbin said- “I thank my BJ King Cup girls, who have shown me incredible love and support. Their presence and support have been a beacon of positivity in these difficult days, However, I would like to inform you that I will have to undergo a second surgery, required by the treatment planned by the doctors. Thanks to the rapid recovery I have experienced, I am optimistic about being back on court.”

While Garbin’s statement saddened the whole of Italy, Sinner came to the rescue with his Davis Cup 2023 victory.

Sinner drops thanks for colleague Matteo after the epic win at the 2023 Davis Cup Finals

Jannik Sinner received his 2023 Davis Cup victory by beating Australia’s Alex de Minaur by 6-3, 6-0. Italy was able to defeat Australia by 2-0. However, it wasn’t just Sinner’s credibility. Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi equally contributed to this victory by snatching the first point for his country. That is why Sinner was all in praise of his colleague for his contribution to the 2023 Davis Cup victory.

Sinner commented- ” Huge thanks to Matteo. He’s had a very tough year with a lot of injuries. It means a lot to us that he came here for all of us. He gave us a lot of positive energy. Thanks Matteo. All the time, we kept everything together. Yesterday we were 1 point away from being out. Today we get to celebrate the win. We are very, very happy.”
