In mid-November, Nick Kyrgios announced his comeback in the men’s Tour after two years! Currently, he’s preparing himself to take part at the Brisbane International in just a few weeks from now. Despite being away from the tennis court for quite a while, Kyrgios never failed to make it to the headlines. Previously he was seen calling Jannik Sinner’s doping ruling as “Ridiculous…” Later on, when Iga Swiatek’s doping was made public, Nick said, “OUR SPORT IS COOKED.” Recently, he took a joint-jab at them!

Jannik Sinner tested positive for the banned substance, Clostebol earlier this year, while Iga Swiatek tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine (TMZ). Both these tennis stars were handed provisional suspension as a result. Sinner served only a few days of suspension. However, WADA later on appealed to the CAS against the decision and their appeal will be heard by the CAS in February 2025. Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, served a month-long provisional suspension.

“Ridiculous – whether it was accidental or planned. You get tested twice with a banned substance (steroid)…you should be gone for two years. Your performance was enhanced. Massage cream…yeah nice,” Kyrgois said at that time. Regarding Swiatek’s case, Nick Kyrgios tweeted, “The excuse that we can all use is that we didn’t know. Simply didn’t know. Professionals at the highest level of sport can now just say ‘we didn’t know.” In a different tweet, the Aussie wrote, “Current players setting bad examples for young generations.

On December 5th, Kyrgios continued his war of words, seemingly targeting Sinner and Swiatek. “Feels good getting these consecutive days training in the bank man…. Wrist re construction and back out here… blessed………………Without failing any drug tests 🙂‍↕️🙏🏽 be proud kygs doing it the right way 😩😂.

After a lengthy hiatus due to severe wrist and knee injuries, Kyrgios’s last competitive match was in 2022. His comeback will be marked by a special moment, as he aims to reclaim the men’s doubles title he won alongside compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis in 2022, a year that also saw Ash Barty’s historic women’s singles victory.

To facilitate his return, Kyrgios is set to utilize his protected ranking. This rule allows players who have been sidelined due to injury to maintain their ranking position for a specific period. With this advantage, Kyrgios will bypass the traditional qualification process and secure a direct entry into the main draw of the Australian Open.

When asked about his targets for 2025, the Aussie added, “I think the one thing that is now on my target is a Grand Slam. I think that will be the only thing that will shut people up at the end of the day. That’ll be my deep motivation.” Time will tell if Kyrgios can make good on his promise, but his recent comments on doping have come back to haunt him.

American tennis legend takes an indirect jab at Nick Kyrgios’ statements on the doping controversy

Nick Kyrgios has been one of the harshest critics of Jannik Sinner in the last few months. Although he claims that it’s “nothing personal,” against the Italian, he has raised the level of criticism every month. When WADA decided to appeal the ITIA decision, he brutally laughed at Jannik Sinner and passed a cheeky remark on the same. He wrote, “Hahaha maybe not so innocent after all, eh?” on his social media.

Reacting to the same reactions from the Aussie, Emma Raducanu’s former coach, Mark Petchey, said, “Yes, Nick Kyrgios needs to give it a rest. Sinner has been found not guilty, right? And we’re about to get the WADA appeal. Let’s just wait for that. You have to let the process go through due care and attention. This is a massive thing. It is somebody’s career.” Moreover, Andy Roddick also isn’t too pleased with these reactions from the Aussie.

He highlighted some of the critics’ comments and said, “Some of you are gonna be like, you test positive your lifetime ban. Yevgeny Kafelnikov said, ‘lifetime ban. Lifetime ban for melatonin’. Sounds right. Yeah. Someone else going, ‘our sport is cooked.” Roddick further added, “Our sport’s pretty f—g great. Pretty great. I have a lot more respect for our sport than to close the door on someone taking a melatonin and throwing my iron.”

He didn’t even hesitate to take an indirect dig at the Aussie’s remarks by saying, “that feels like a desperate grab for attention as opposed to actually having a moral set, especially when a lot of people, no one’s specific.” Well, Roddick and Petchey seem to be growing weary of the incessant drama and controversy surrounding modern tennis.
