Two stalwarts of the sport, Serena Williams and Roger Federer, recently bid adieu to their respective professional careers in style. Over the years, these two have been the driving force and motivation behind many tennis enthusiasts. The current generation is full of professional tennis players who grew up idolizing them. Andy Roddick was the person who watched both of them closely. While he grew up playing tennis with Serena and Venus, he was one of the archrivals of Federer on the ATP tour.

Andy Roddick is very close to Serena Williams. The duo trained under the able guidance of coach Rick Macci. Both Roddick and Williams’ sisters made it to the top of professional tennis. In a chat with the Tennis Channel, the former world number 1 spoke in detail about the legacy Serena and Federer have left behind after their long and illustrious careers. Here’s what he said.

He further added, “They both went about in their own ways. With their own style. With their own personality. They were both very very greedy with Grand Slam titles. We are so lucky to have had them in the game of tennis. They made a 23-year-old career seem normal simultaneously. It was just crazy.”

Serena and Federer congratulated each other on their retirement

Roger Federer declared his retirement 12 days after Serena Williams played her last match. On that occasion, Federer came up with a beautiful video congratulating the American legend. Serena returned the favorswhen the 41-year-old Swiss maestro called his time in tennis.
