Nick Kyrgios recently opened up on his fellow Australian counterpart and the World No.1 Ashleigh Barty. The 26-year-old spoke about Barty’s game and how they created a different atmosphere at the Rod Laver Arena during their respective finals. Furthermore, he went all heart, appreciating her successful career till date.

Nick Kyrgios, along with his partner, Thanasi Kokkinakis, created history at this year’s Australian Open. They became the first all Australian pair since 1997 to win the men’s doubles title in Melbourne. On the other hand, Ashleigh Barty also wrote her name in the history books by becoming the first Australian since 1978 to win the women’s singles title in Melbourne. With this win, Barty also increased her win streak to 11-0 in 2022.

Nick Kyrgios goes all heart for Ashleigh Barty
Nick Kyrgios, ready to head for the USA to play at Indian Wells and Miami, recently participated in the Spotify podcast ‘No Boundaries’. Kyrgios along with his friends Alex Babanine and James Frawley conversed about the Australian Open, its winners, the everlasting GOAT debate, amongst other topics. They also took up some fan questions during the podcast.

During the highly energetic podcast, Kyrgios expressed his views on the 2022 Australian Open women’s singles champion Ashleigh Barty. Being an Aussie himself, Kyrgios expressed what the Australian people think about World No. 1 saying, “Aussies just love her. She’s insane.”

Barty is known for her aggressive style of game. Heavy groundstrokes, coupled with the perfectly timed variations, make Barty stand out from all the other players on the tour. However, what needs a special mention is her slice and her approach to the net. Appreciating her game, Kyrgios went all heart as he compared Barty with Federer.
“I think she’s really good for the game. I think as for all said the slice, she’s entertaining to watch. She comes in to the net, it’s like old school. It’s like Federer-esque on the female side I think.”

The 25-year-old Barty has a total of three grand slam titles to her name. However, seeing her rising performance, fans around the world are anticipating much more grand slam wins for the 2022 Australian Open champion. Making his guess on Barty’s total grand slam titles, Kyrgios said, “I think she’s gonna win like 6 or 7 more grand slams easily…honestly. She’s so talented.”

After having a dream run at the Australian Open, are looking to enhance their year further in the coming months. Both the players are next expected to play the Indian Wells and the Miami masters scheduled for the next month.
