Taking to Instagram, Becker recently reminisced about the man who made their success possible.

His Insta story is a reminder of how immeasurable the impact of these figures in the sport is. It is in large part due to Breskvar that Becker and Graf were able to attain their impressive heights. Both the stars benefited from his expertise, guidance, and mentorship. They were able to unlock their full potential and reach the pinnacle of tennis.

Boris Becker shares his gratitude and appreciation for his former coach

Boris Breskvar passed away at the age of 70 after a long illness in 2012. He was the revered and admired trainer at Baden Tennis Club in Germany. He was the very first to recognize the potential of the young Boris Becker and Steffi Graf. His guidance cast the foundation for their extraordinary successes. He began mentoring Becker when the latter was merely six, honed his skills, and groomed him to become a professional tennis player in 1984.

The significance of Breskvar not only extended to Becker but also to Graf. He had a huge role in nurturing her skills and helping her develop into a player with a unique blend of power, finesse, and mental resilience. In honor of his legacy, the Tennis Academy was established in 1992. The academy aims to inspire more young talents such as Becker and Graf so that they may experience similar success.

Becker’s career is a shining example of the impactful role coaching can have on an individual’s future. The accomplishments of both Becker and Graf owe much to the influence of Boris Breskvar. On his Insta Q&A, a fan asked the German ace, “How important was Boris Breskvar in your career?” Becker wrote, “Mr. Breskvar was very instrumental not only in my career growing in Leimen but also Steffi’s career (yep the wonderful Steffi Graf).”
