Apart from Rune, Wozniacki was the only other Dane to reach the quarterfinal stage of Roland Garros in singles. The former Australian Open champion did it twice, in 2010 and 2017 respectively. However, on both occasions, she lost in the last eight against the eventual champions, Francesca Schiavone and Jelena Ostapenko.

The fourth seed showed glimpses of a comeback as he won the second set, 6-3. The third set was a one-sided affair, with Rune starting to dominate the proceedings, eventually winning the set, 6-3. As the Danish teenager’s confidence grew, he didn’t give the World No.4 the opportunity to make a comeback and won the fourth set, 6-4. In his first appearance in the quarterfinals, Rune will face Casper Ruud of Norway.
