It was the year 2012. Maria Sharapova was into her maiden French Open final. In the summit clash, she defeated Italy’s Sara Errani in straight sets to win her fourth Grand Slam title. Moreover, it was a dominating display by the former World Number 1, dropping just a set en route to her title victory. Subsequently, she went on to win the title again in 2014.

Recently, she opened up about watching the live action of the French Open 2022.

Maria Sharapova talks about watching the French Open 2022

The 35-year-old took to Instagram to engage in a question-and-answer session with her fans. One of the fans asked Sharapova, “Are you watching the French Open? Miss watching you play!” Subsequently, she replied, “I watched a few games of Nadal-Djokovic. Don’t have cable so caught it on @TennisChannel’s feed.”

It was a thrilling quarterfinal match between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros this year. Djokovic was the defending champion at the tournament. However, Nadal avenged last year’s defeat by knocking out the defending champion in four sets.

In his semifinal match against Rafael Nadal yesterday, German tennis star Alexander Zverev twisted his ankle and cried in anguish midway through the second set. As a result, he was forced to retire, handing Nadal an entry into the final of the French Open 2022.

Opening up about his injury, Zverev said, “A very difficult moment for me today on the court. Obviously, a fantastic match until what happened, happened. It looks like I have a very serious injury. But the medical team and the doctors are still checking on it.”
