John McEnroe praises Venus for Serena Williams’ success

The former world no.1 recently said, I’d love to see [Venus] win some more matches, because to me, she’s the greatest thing to happen to Serena. She’s been so supportive [of her sister].

Apart from that, McEnroe also predicted that Venus is going to retire after playing doubles with Serena at the US Open. I’m going to predict that after the doubles [Venus and Serena] both retire… My prediction is that they’re both going to retire after the tournament is over. I don’t think Venus is going to keep playing,” he further said.

It is worth noting that Venus has always been supportive of Serena despite her sister achieving more on the WTA tour than her. In 1999, Serena shocked everyone by winning the US Open title before her elder sister Venus.

Moreover, they have had many battles on the court, mostly during the latter stages of tournaments. Despite that, they have always maintained a healthy bond off the court, which is why they are still very close.

Is this Venus’ last US Open?

Notably, Venus will play against Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium in the first round at the US Open. According to her current form, her campaign at this year’s tournament could end in the first round. Moreover, this could also be her last singles match at the US Open as well.

Even if her singles campaign in Flushing Meadows doesn’t go according to plan, she will play doubles with her sister Serena, who, earlier this month, announced that this will be her last tournament. So, fans are worried that Venus could also make such an announcement after the US Open.
