A few years back, Dimitrov and Maria Sharapova were the power couple in tennis. However, the two parted ways after being together for two years. During their relationship, Dimitrov surprised one and all with his surprising claim.

Often called ‘Baby Federer’ due to similarities in his playing style with Roger Federer, the Bulgarian tennis star has had big shoes to fill. However, he has failed to win a Grand Slam tournament, with semifinal appearances being his best finish at major tournaments.

Grigor Dimitrov once wanted Rihanna to accompany him at Wimbledon

The Bulgarian tennis star sparked a major debate when he revealed that he would like Rihanna to accompany him at Wimbledon instead of his then-girlfriend, Maria Sharapova. He said that Rihanna would be his dream companion at the tournament if he was a spectator.

A year before this incident, Sharapova and Serena had engaged in a war of words over the Bulgarian tennis star. Serena revealed that Dimitrov had a black heart when talking about the Russian star’s relationship with the Bulgarian.

However, Sharapova hit back at Serena for these claims, accusing her of being a marriage-wrecker over her relationship with Patrick Mouratoglou.

Dimitrov’s disappointing performance at Sofia Open

Recently, the 31-year-old hasn’t been having the best run of form. In the recently concluded Sofia Open in his native country, he lost in the second round against Ilya Ivashka. Dimitrov was the third seed and one of the favorites to win the title in Bulgaria. However, his campaign ended early in the second round. The match lasted little less than two hours, with Ivashka prevailing in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (3).
