Stefanos Tsitsipas indicates tensions with father as he sides with former coach

The Greek player started off the year on a great footing after reserving a place for himself in the finals of the Australian Open. However, since then, a pattern developed and the French Open and Wimbledon saw a disappointing run for the player. It was just ahead of French Open that Tsitsipas parted ways with his former coach Mark Philippoussis. But sole guidance of his father and coach Apostolos Tsitsipas did not help the player gain anything tangible.

So, now the turn of events shows that Stefanos Tsitsipas is faring well under the guidance of Philippoussis.? Philippoussis has taken the role of head coach replacing the player’s father, Apostolos Tsitsipas.

During his post-match conference after winning the Las Cabos Open, the player stated, “There’s one thing that I did pay attention to between the dynamic, is there’s much more tranquility and calmness in the air when I’m competing.” The new presence of “tranquility and calmness” indicates that it was lacking during his sole coaching by his father.

Furthermore, he added that he needs a professional approach which can be lacking when you have a parent guiding you. He added, “Parents can get emotional sometimes, and I completely understand that.”

However, Tsitsipas wants his father to rest for now. He stated, “I give him some time off. He hasn’t had some time off since I’m 12 years old.” So, he wants his father to take some time off the court and refresh a bit. But this change in player box dynamics shows Tsitsipas means business.
