Wildcard entrant Andy Murray has started his Indian Wells campaign on a positive note. In the first round, he beat Japan’s Taro Daniel in their third meeting of 2022. Moreover, with this win, Murray also registered his 700th career win.

However, unlike the previous win at Doha, the win didn’t come that easy this time. The former World No. 1 had to undergo tremendous pressure, coming back to win the game after losing the first set. This phenomenall comeback inspired the rising British sensation, Emma Raducanu, who is in the third round of Indian Wells. She asserted that Murray inspired her to ‘Dig In.’

Raducanu’s take on Murray’s performance

As per yesterday’s order of play, Emma’s second-round match was scheduled just after Murray’s match in Stadium 1. Speaking to a media network, Emma said that she watched Murray’s match before her warm-up. “I was actually watching pretty much the whole match before I had to warm up.”

In the match, Andy Murray gave the essence of a potential form revival. A one similar to when he was at his peak. One set down, the 34-year-old made a ravishing comeback in the game, going on to win the match 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. Impressed by Murray’s performance, Raducanu went all praise for the fellow Britisher saying, “It was great to see Andy battle through a tough match. He was down but found a way to battle through.”

Over the years, Murray has been a teacher and an inspiration for a number of young and budding players. Even though he has been witnessing a low phase in his career lately, the status he has earned in the sport over the years remains unmatchable. Getting inspired from the 3-time Grand Slam winner, Raducanu confessed that she wanted to watch Murray’s match to learn from him.

“I wanted to watch him and learn from him. He kind of inspired me to dig in when it got tough today.”

Andy Murray started his 2022 season with a first-round loss at ATP 250 Melbourne Open. However, not even a week later, he made a comeback, reaching the finals of the ATP 250 Sydney Open. However, struggling with form, Andy Murray suffered four continuous second-round exits. The first came in at the Australian Open, followed by Rotterdam, Doha, and finally in Dubai.

Hoping to get better, the 2009 runner-up is now playing at the Indian Wells. Winning his first match against Taro Daniel, he will next face the 31st seed Alexander Bublik.

On the other hand, Emma Raducanu is the winner of the 2021 US Open Women’s singles title. However, like Murray, the 19-year-old has also been struggling ever since. She started her 2022 season at the WTA 500 Sydney Classic. However, not being able to bring in the US Open form, she faced a first-round exit against Elena Rybakina. It was followed by a second-round exit at the Australian Open and a mid-match retirement in the first round of the WTA Guadalajara Open.

Recovering from the injury, Raducanu made a comeback at the Indian Wells. Entering the draw as the 11th seed, Raducanu received a first-round bye. In the second round, she beat Caroline Garcia, to set up a third-round clash with Petra Martic.
