‘Heavily Pregnant’ Kate Middleton Had Her Wimbledon Excitement Bogged Down by Doctors as Andy Murray’s Historic Moment Missed the Princess of Wales’ Presence in 2013

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton has never failed to show her love for tennis. She makes an annual appearance at Wimbledon and also presents the trophy to the winners. Her love for the game goes beyond Wimbledon as the Princess has engaged in hitting sessions with Emma Raducanu and Roger Federer. Despite being a religious follower of the sport, Middleton once missed out on one of the most iconic Wimbledon moments.

Yes, we are talking about the 2013 Wimbledon final where Andy Murray became the first British man to win the Championship since Fred Perry in 1936. The Princess of Wales was in fact banned from entering the premises for the final.

Despite making multiple requests, Kate Middleton was not allowed to watch the Wimbledon 2013 final. She said on the BBC documentary Our Wimbledon I was very heavily pregnant with George, so I wasn’t able to turn up. I was sort of ‘Maybe I could go’ but the doctors were like ‘no.’ I wrote to [Andy Murray] afterwards saying sorry for not being there, but huge congratulations.

The Duchess was pregnant with Prince George who was born a few days after the 2013 final. The doctors advised her to watch the match from her home as she was in the final stages of pregnancy. However, she made it up for the miss by witnessing a similar feat three years later.

Kate Middleton witnesses Andy Murray’s second Wimbledon triumph

Three years later, Andy Murray won his second Wimbledon title by beating Milos Raonic in the final. Kate Middleton was in the Royal Box with her family to witness Andy Murray engrave his name on the Wimbledon trophy for the second time. It wasn’t as sweet as the first triumph but Middleton got some sort of a redemption.

The Princess of Wales also watched Andy Murray’s first round encounter at this year’s Wimbledon against fellow Brit Ryan Peniston. She was accompanied by Roger Federer in the Royal Box as Wimbledon felicitated the Swiss Maestro on the opening day.
