

It has been a worrisome time for the North American country of Mexico. Acapulco, one of the biggest cities in the country is grappling with a natural calamity that has proved destructive for the city. Hurricane Otis made a massive landfall in that area, causing high wind speeds and very heavy rainfall. While thousands of people have been affected by it, the hurricane has also proved fatal for at least 27 people as authorities fear more loss of lives. Amidst this, a historic tennis tournament has also been affected by this natural calamity.

Acapulco is host to one of the oldest tennis tournaments, both on the ATP Tour as well as the WTA Tour. However, hurricane Otis has had a severe effect on this as its future looks bleak.

As Mexico battles the destructive calamity, terrifying visuals of it have been doing the rounds on social media. They went viral as soon as shared by the people and have invited many reactions.

Journalist Jose Morgado shared one such horrifying video on his official Twitter handle. In the video showing an ariel view of the city of Acapulco, it can be seen that the city is flooded with water due to Hurricane Otis.

Further, the focus shifts to the giant tennis stadium that plays host to the Mexican Open. The court is nowhere to be seen as it is submerged below water. Morgado even shared an original picture of the stadium for comparison as the horrifying visuals captured the saddening state of the giant stadium. While sharing the video, Morgado wrote, “This is terrible to see…”

What did Brad Gilbert say about Hurricane Otis?
The 62-year-old is active on social media and often voices his opinions on trending subjects. On this occasion, he took to his official Twitter handle to comment about the current situation in Mexico.
Gilbert said, “Hurricane Otis makes historic Category 5 landfall in Mexico near Acapulco – FOX Weather i know a ways from Cancun hopefully everyone ok.”
While the city of Acapulco plays host to the ATP 500 Mexican Open, it also used to host the WTA International tournament until 2020. Some notable winners of these tournaments include the likes of Rafael Nadal and Venus Williams. While the situation will take time to improve, we hope that the city gets back to its feet soon and the historic tournament goes ahead as per schedule next year.
