‘I Can Play on Anything…’- When Serena Williams Boasted About Her Tennis Prowess to Rafael Nadal Ahead of Their Bizarre Face-Off

Serena Williams is not called the GOAT by most tennis fans without a reason. By the age of 22, she had clinched her Career Grand Slam, a dream that remains unfulfilled for many tennis stars. Having aced all the majors, she tried to show her skills on an unorthodox surface. She and Rafael Nadal once shared a water court in Miami where they played tennis.

It indeed was indeed a novel experience for both players. However, they seemed to enjoy it and adapted to it quickly.

Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal once had a face-off with a twist

Williams has never been afraid of facing her opponents on the court. She has always been resilient in the face of any challenge. So, when there came an opportunity for a face-off with Spanish star Rafael Nadal on a water court, she gladly took it.

Overlooking Miami’s South Beach, the players played a tennis match on a rooftop water court. This indeed was a great experience for both players, as it was the first time that such a match was conducted.

After the match, Serena Williams talked about her delightful experience. She said, “I like hard courts. I like grass courts. I like clay courts.” She showcased her typical confidence when she said, “I can play on anything, including water.”

On the other hand, Rafael Nadal too seemed to enjoy the experience. He said, “It’s always very nice to do something like this.” He complimented the overall aura and said, “Very nice views here in Miami. Very happy here with Serena. Nice feeling for me.”

Rafael Nadal climbs up the ATP rankings chart

When we take a look at the updated ATP rankings, the top spot is clinched by the current US Open champion, Carlos Alcaraz Garfia. Immediately following him is another Spaniard, Rafael Nadal. It was the first time two Spanish players have occupied the summit in the ATP rankings. The teenager hailed this achievement through a post on Twitter. However, Djokovic fans were not happy with this. Fans of Novak Djokovic condemned ATP for having a faulty ranking system, as he dropped in the rankings despite winning three titles, including his fourth consecutive Wimbledon title.

On the personal front, Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Laver Cup immediately after his doubles match with Roger Federer, citing personal reasons as his wife was nearing her due date.
