Being a professional tennis player can be both beautiful and difficult at times. Fabio Fognini, the Italian tennis star, recently made an emotional confession where he opened up about his lowest point when he felt as if he was dying.

For the past two to three years, many tennis players, including Naomi Osaka and Rafael Nadal, have spoken out about the mental fatigue that comes with their fame or just dealing with the fact that they are tennis players. They have publicly discussed how one of the main issues in today’s sports world is psychological wellness. And now, the 35-year-old Italian player has given his views about the same.

Fabio Fognini made an emotional and heartbreaking confession

In a conversation with L’Ultimo Uomo magazine, the former world No. 9 tennis player openly talked about how he feels torn between his tennis career’s past, present, and future. Fognini made an emotional confession about his psychological struggles after facing a lot of injuries lately in his tennis career.

He said, “Over the years I understood the psychological component is the main 1 in tennis. 1 year in Paris I woke up almost crying next to Flavia Pennetta. I thought I was dying. I was sweating & didn’t feel my arm. I thought I had a heart attack. But it was a panic attack”

Along with revealing his panic attack phase, he also highlighted the fact that psychological well-being plays a huge part in a tennis player’s career.

However, he made it clear that he does not want his kid to pursue tennis as a career while discussing the psychological strain that comes with being a professional tennis player.

In the same conversation, the 35-year-old tennis player surprisingly revealed that he hopes his son does not pick the same life and career as him. He thought back on all the sacrifices he had to make in order to succeed. And while discussing the costs of being away from home, such as loneliness and constant fatigue.

The 97th-ranked player in the world thinks it would be better if his son found a different niche. He added that tennis is a difficult sport that demands an incredible level of effort. Additionally, the Italian tennis player stressed that if his son ever decides to pursue a career in tennis, he is willing to make some sacrifices for him.
