Jimmy Connors has gone down in history as one of the greatest players on the ATP Tour. With over 109 ATP titles, Connors sits at the top with some of the best players on the professional circuit. Recently, Connors shared a post of an old picture of himself, Björn Borg, Ivan Lendl, and John McEnroe. The reactions to the picture were mixed with amazement. However, one user pointed out that Connors forgot Ilie Năstase. And Connors had a fitting response to the same.

Ilie Năstase is a Romanian tennis legend. He was ranked 1 for almost an entire year. But the Romanian former player came under fire after he made some comments about Serena Williams‘ daughter, Olympia Ohanian.

The American tennis legend arrived a little early to throwback Thursday as he shared an old picture of himself and his tennis peers. The picture was from their prime and showed younger versions of Connors, Borg, McEnroe and Lendl. The original tweet stated that if the four weren’t tennis players, they could form a good band.

Connors called himself and the three others badass and captioned it, “4 bad ass “Murtr Fkrs” – send your comments !!!!“. While most of the users agreed that the four would make an amazing band, one comment was a little different.

Although Connors remembers the Romanian tennis legend with fondness, most of the tennis world was up in arms against Nastase in 2017 for his comments on Serena Williams.

Ilie Năstase’s ill-advised comments towards Serena Williams

In 2017, when Serena Williams was expecting a child with the Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, Năstase made some comments that did not land well with the American tennis legend and the rest of the tennis world. He first accused Williams of doping and then went on to target her unborn child. Năstase was first surprised by the news of her being pregnant and then inquired about the color of the child, saying it may be “Chocolate with milk“.

Williams fired back at the Romanian and said that his comment was classless. She added that he should stop coming after her and her child. Năstase has since apologized for the comment. He said he understands how inexcusable his statements were and will make sure to think before he speaks in the future.
