Rafael Nadal confirming his participation at the Laver Cup 2024 has brought several memories from the past. The tennis world is now recalling all the moments surrounding the Spaniard from the previous editions of this prestigious tournament. Former world number one, Kim Clijsters, recently shared an incident involving Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Stefanos Tsitsipas from the 2019 Laver Cup. She couldn’t hold back her laughter after watching this hilarious moment.

It was from a double match when Rafael Nadal teamed up with Stefanos Tsitsipas to take on Jack Sock and Nick Kyrgios. In doubles matches, teams often have a number of tactical signals to communicate with each other during the match. But Nadal was playing with Tsitsipas for the very first time in his career. So, they had very little idea of what each other was doing. Rafael Nadal was unable to understand his hand gestures at the net. He felt they were too complicated and had asked Tsitsipas to stay more simple. Clijsters shared a small clip from that moment and wrote “Hilarious,” with a laughing emoji on her Instagram stories.

In the clip, Nadal was heard saying, “We just need to be a little bit more clear with the finger.” Tsitsipas replied, “Because they are watching?” Then Nadal burst out in laughter and went on to add, “Because I didn’t understand where you were going.” The Spaniard then clenched his fist and said that signal meant to stay in your position. “Any finger, you cross,” Rafa added. Roger Federer, who assisted the players courtside, burst out in laughter after hearing their conversation.

In the same match, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were also spotted teaming up once again to provide coaching advice to the Greek tennis player. Stefanos Tsitsipas made a bad start to the match. And then Federer was seen telling him, “Great hold at the net. Super solid. Just keep moving forward. You can’t go backwards.” The Swiss Maestro urged him to keep swinging. He told Tsitsipas not to be scared because “Good things happen when you go for it.

Then, Nadal also advised him to slice a bit more while doing the serves so that it becomes difficult for their opponents to return the ball. But what was Tsitsipas’ reaction after getting the chance to team up with the GOATs of the tennis world?

During an interview, Tsitsipas made an emotional revelation about how happy he was to be able to share the courts with the legends of the game. He added, “I got to play doubles with both of them and it was a great experience for me. It was a dream come true for sure. As a child, I would never have dreamed the Laver Cup would ever happen, a competition between Europe and the Rest of the World. I would never think that would be possible but it happened and I got to be part of it. I got invited which was such an honour.

He further went on to add that playing one’s nation is one thing and representing Team Europe is another thing. He felt quite happy to get the chance to step onto the court with the best tennis players of his continent. Stefanos Tsitsipas believes that was truly an emotional and once-in-a-lifetime moment in his career.
