It’s difficult to win over the American tennis legend, John McEnroe, and impress him with words. His falling in love with someone’s nature is merely something out of the box, much like his ferocity on the tennis court or his tennis shots. But in his own autobiography, which was published in 2017, he described all the events and people that had inspired or impressed him.

The father of Venus and Serena Williams was one of those individuals who made an impression on him that he can never forget. The 64-year-old American tennis legend described incidents in his book “But Seriously” where Richard Williams’ unconventional thinking left him speechless.

When John McEnroe was left dumbstruck by Serena Williams’ father

Famously known as the superbrat, the seven-time Grand Slam champion talked in his autobiography about a bizarre piece of advice that he once received from the iconic Williams’ sister’s father. He told about the time when he met King Richard for the first time and how his 23-time Grand Slam champion father advised him to have his own perfume line.

The 64-year-old American tennis Legend recalled that his former tennis court advised him to get into the perfume line as it has a lot of money and is something that he can do after tennis. After all the interaction, he shared his own feelings regarding the interaction.

He said, “You had to admire the guy; he was certainly thinking outside a pretty big box, making my own thoughts of doing some dumba** game show feel lame. But I swear he talked all evening. I was left dumbstruck by so much of what he said, incredulous, in fact. I figured that some of it was probably true, it was just impossible to tell which part.” 

Not only that, but last year McEnroe also revealed King Richards’s prediction regarding Venus and Serena Williams’ future, back when they were quite young for the sport.

When McEnroe revealed Richard Williams’ tennis prediction

Last year, in an interview with ESPN, the 64-year-old former American legend recalled a conversation with King Richard when he made an epic prediction regarding his daughter’s future when they were mainly 8 or 9 years old.

He stated that what Serena and Venus have done during their tennis careers is something that happens literally once every hundred years, just as Richard predicted. He further added that the 81-year-old tennis coach was right and made a proper prediction regarding their tennis legacy.

Nevertheless, looking at the way they have achieved things on the tennis court, it won’t be wrong to say that they have literally created a long-lasting tennis legacy.
