Everyone has their own signature style of rejoicing after winning an important match on the court. This is true for Ben Shelton as well. His iconic style of celebration went viral earlier this year but for not-so-good reasons. However, Taylor Townsend, the 27-year-old professional tennis player, says she ‘loves’ Shelton’s celebration style.

Taylor Townsend is herself known for her unique style of celebrating her wins on the court. But her colleague’s gesture after winning a match is something that she considers “super swaggy.” Apart from that, she also discussed the origin and how her own style has come to be.

Townsend said, “But you know, me and Ben had some really awesome ones when we were playing with each other. I mean, his little phone thing is super swaggy. I love that.” Shelton made his iconic ‘hang up the phone’ celebration debut at the US Open quarterfinals, having defeated fellow American Frances Tiafoe.

However, soon after his defeat against Novak Djokovic, he was given back a taste of his own medicine by Djokovic himself. This stirred a lot of attention among the fans and followers. But the whole incident did not seem like a big deal for Townsend, as she openly talked about her affinity for Shelton’s distinctive way of celebrating.

Taylor Townsend is also renowned for her triumphant celebrations on the court. Although she admitted to not doing them on purpose, it still resonated with her fans and admirers alike. When asked about her favorite one, she said, “I definitely love the seasoning, like the sprinkle one,” and explained the gesture with her hands during the interview.

It indeed became a hit last year during the French Open, and Townsend said how she wanted to add some flavor to the game, which is why she did the gesture.

She admitted that her styles have their own cultural roots by continuing to say, “And then the one where I am like this, it’s kind of cultural, so like, if you know, you know kind of thing,” describing the gesture by putting her fingers under her nose.

She further described how it just happens and cannot be repeated voluntarily. Townsend finds the deeper meaning of such celebrations to be just as appealing as their whimsical charm. In a sport where fierce rivalry and unshakable concentration are common, lighthearted moments and companionship operate as a reminder of the joy that is inherent in the activity.
