Nick Kyrgios is no stranger to stirring up controversy. Even when he took a hiatus to heal from a career threatening wrist injury in 2023, he still remained on the sidelines, commentating his bold takes. Now, he is back in action as he kicked off his 2025 season at the Brisbane International. Though he is back on court, his off-court takes still continue. The Australian star has been in staunch opposition of the recent doping cases of the top tennis stars that have taken the tennis world by storm. So what are his latest comments that have everyone talking?

Back in August 2024, Iga Swiatek tested positive for a banned metabolic agent in an out-of-competition test. The ITIA said in its statement: “The ITIA accepted that the positive test was caused by the contamination of a regulated non-prescription medication (melatonin), manufactured and sold in Poland that the player had been taking for jet lag and sleep issues, and that the violation was therefore not intentional.”

As a result, the Pole faced a one-month suspension – 12 September to 4 October 2024), then a further eight days of ineligibility, from 28 October to 4 December 2024, missing key tournaments like the WTA 1000 events in Beijing and Wuhan. The World No.2  later opened up about the stress and confusion she faced after the positive test. Weeks have passed, but the discussions are still ongoing.

In a recent conversation with Tennis Insider Club, she explained how uncertain she was about the situation, unsure whether her suspension would last two years, three months, or even longer. “I had no idea what happened. At the beginning, I didn’t have a source right on. We had to send supplements to the tabs and wait for the results. It was so chaotic, I didn’t know if it was going to be, two years, three months or something else. It was really tough. I don’t want to go through this again,” Swiatek said.

Kyrgios, ever the provocateur, wasted no time in responding to Swiatek’s comments. On January 6th, he took to X to share his thoughts. In reference to a tweet about Swiatek’s distress over the doping allegation, Kyrgios wrote, “The old I’m the victim card – this tennis world really controls the narrative – it’s a bad joke.”

This is hardly the first time Kyrgios has taken a jab at the World No.2

Nick Kyrgios takes a jibe at Iga Swiatek for taking ‘help’

During the recently concluded United Cup, Nick Kyrgios had some sharp words for Iga Swiatek. Team USA claimed the title, with the Americans overcoming Poland 2-0 in the final. Coco Gauff triumphed over Swiatek in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, before Taylor Fritz sealed the victory for Team USA with a gritty 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(4) win over Hubert Hurkacz.

After losing the first set to Gauff, the five-time Grand Slam champion turned to her trusty notebook—a thing she often carries during matches, filled with tactics and reminders to help her stay focused. However, this move didn’t go unnoticed by Kyrgios, who seemed to allude to Swiatek’s doping case with a cheeky comment. On X, he wrote, “And with all the other help 😅,” a clear reference to the controversy surrounding her positive test.

While Kyrgios was stirring the pot off the court, his return to the singles arena didn’t exactly go according to plan. After being sidelined for 18 months, Kyrgios made his comeback at the 2025 Brisbane International. However, his return was less than stellar, as he was knocked out in the first round of singles. In doubles, he and Novak Djokovic were defeated in the second round.

Despite the setback, Kyrgios will be looking to bounce back at the Australian Open, which kicks off on January 12.
