Today at the French Open, we saw one of the most heartbreaking incidents during the men’s semi-final match between Alexander Zverev and Rafael Nadal. During the second set, the German player fell hard on the ground and twisted his ankle. It was an unbearable moment for everyone involved, as his screams reverberated through the court Phillipe-Chatrier.

At the same time, we saw Nadal’s humbleness, as he showed real sportsmanship towards the German player. As the German was going in a wheelchair into the dressing room, the Spaniard went with him to check on him. Then, they both came out on the court, as we saw Zverev on crutches. Meanwhile, many fans and former players reacted to Zverev’s injury.

Former Serbian tennis player, Ana Ivanovic was in fact present in the stadium and saw the whole incident. she tweeted, Get well soon @AlexZverev ! Wishing you a speedy recovery #RolandGarros.

Former American tennis star, James Blake also felt bad for the German, as he wrote, What a sad situation for @AlexZverev in the semis. Never want to see a match end like this. Especially one this well played and hard fought.

Rafael Nadal’s academy also put a tweet and wished for the speedy recovery of Zverev, Get well soon, @AlexZverev!

Nadal reaches the final of the French Open

Meanwhile, Nadal reaches yet another Roland Garros final. Although it was a tragic end to the match, the 13-time champion battled hard throughout the match, which lasted 3 hours and 13 minutes. The second set was poised to go to another tie breaker when Zverev retired; the final result was 7-6 6-6. In the final, Nadal will play either Casper Ruud or Marin Cilic.
