Recently, Simona Halep was handed a four-year ban due to doping by the ITIA. Her situation has gone viral, and many are split about the verdict. Some are chastising her and throwing shade at the player. One of those individuals is Serena Williams, who is now under scrutiny for her comments. She is especially being chastised by Novak Djokovic fans for a double standard.
Fans of the 24-time grand slam champion are calling out the media for not lambasting Williams like they did when their star imitated a young American player. After his win against Ben Shelton, Djokovic copied his celebration of hanging up the phone on the American star. This angered many pundits, which even led some to call him a bully.

Novak Djokovic fans outraged at Serena Williams’ double standards
Serena Williams recently showed that she is not over her loss against Simona Halep in the 2019 Wimbledon finals. After her ban was announced, Williams shared a comment on X (formerly Twitter), which read, “8 is a better number”. She was referencing her missed chance at winning her eighth Wimbledon Championships which she lost to Halep.
Fans, especially of the Romanian, were outraged, and many mentioned the Djokovic situation to chastise the media for their silence. The Serbian star came under fire for his gesture pointed at Shelton. The media called him out on his behavior and dubbed him a bully. Fans of the Djoker are now hitting back.
One fan of the Djoker pointed out that the media was calling the Serbian a bully for his move at Shelton. But they were saying nothing about the comment made by Williams.
Weren't tennis media calling Djokovic a "bully" for throwing shade at Shelton just a few days ago?
I guess Serena Williams is "mother" for doing so regarding a far more serious issue https://t.co/9nXxK7g9mx

Another fan said there is always a double standard in the media regarding her (Serena).
There's always been a double standard when it comes to her tbh.

Another fan was angry at Williams’ behavior.
Insinuating that she has no class, the fan also mentioned that she has no reason to be mad at Halep just because she lost to her once.
She doesn’t have class at all! Why be bitter coz you lost to Simona once? Especially on a day she is at her lowest point

Another individual agreed with the thoughts and further said that it was disgraceful for Williams to act in such a manner.
Exactly my thoughts.
Utterly disgraceful and the hypocrisy by some is off the charts— AshX (@DjokoAsh) September 12, 2023
Some users commented on the original post written by Williams on her X page.
One user said it would’ve been better if Williams had congratulated Djokovic on his historic win instead of commenting on the ban received by Halep.
It would have been nice for her to congratulate Novak on hitting a milestone she couldn’t reach rather than throw shade at Halep https://t.co/12hwzSTBoD

Another Djoker fan said that if Djokovic had made that comment about a male player being banned, it would be followed by intense outrage by everyone in the tennis world.
Can you imagine the outrage if a men’s player had been banned and Novak Djokovic tweeted something like this… https://t.co/77TyfNzEwR

Serena Williams will continue to receive flak from Djokovic fans. But general tennis fans chastised her for her comments as well.

Simona Halep’s drawn-out battle
Halep first received a provisional ban in 2022 after traces of Roxadustat were found in her blood. She appealed to the ITIA and independent tribunals as well, but her hearing kept getting delayed. She finally found herself in the proceedings recently, but it was not good news. The Romanian player found herself with a four-year ban, which is bound to change the entire trajectory of her career.

Her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, was astounded at the ban and said that he was against the verdict. Now that the final decision has been announced, it is not likely to change any time soon. The next time we see Halep step foot on the court will be in 2027.
