At 37, time is running out for Novak Djokovic in his tennis career. However, the Serb is unwilling to stop as of now and proved why he is still at the top of his game at the Paris Olympics. Djokovic went on to defeat Carlos Alcaraz in the summit clash to clinch the gold medal at the recently concluded Olympic Games and complete his trophy cabinet. With his biggest goal of the season fulfilled, many feel that Djokovic’s retirement might be nearing. Earlier today, the American legend Chris Evert made a huge claim.

Ahead of the US Open, Evert was involved in a preview discussion with John McEnroe where she revealed that Djokovic might call it quits if he wins the US Open title. If he does so, it will land the Serb his 25th Grand Slam title, the most titles any player has ever achieved. Evert went on to say, “I think if he wins the 25th major, I would think he would leave the game. I mean, I don’t know, he would break that tie with Margaret Court. He’s won the Olympics. That was such a big goal for him, winning the Olympics.”

With Roger Federer retiring a couple of years back and the likes of Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray calling it quits this year, Djokovic is the lone member of the famed ‘Big Four’ in tennis who is still going strong. He has suffered from injury setbacks this year and even had knee surgery after the French Open, where he withdrew midway. Despite many in the tennis world feeling that retirement is looming for him, Djokovic has other plans.

Novak Djokovic: ‘Let’s keep it going’

Before his Paris Olympics heroics, Novak Djokovic reached the summit clash of the Wimbledon Championships where he lost against Alcaraz. In the process, he also failed to equal Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon titles. With that goal in mind, Djokovic quashed retirement rumors and aimed to return to the tournament next year.

During the post-match interview after losing in the Wimbledon final, Djokovic said, “Yeah, let’s keep it going. I still keep going. I would love to [play Wimbledon 2025]. I don’t have anything in my thoughts right now that this is my last Wimbledon. I really want to play. I don’t have any limitations in my mind. I still want to keep going and play as long as I feel like I can play on this high level.”

Despite his retirement talks taking center stage, a rejuvenated Novak Djokovic will go all guns blazing at the US Open beginning in a few days. Do you feel Djokovic will continue playing in the next season? Let us know your views in the comments below.
