A war of words on where tennis stars in the Olympics has begun. As the 2024 Paris Olympics is approaching, tennis players around the world are getting ready for the big occasion. Since being reintroduced as an official sport back in 1988 at the Olympics, tennis fans have been fortunate to witness intriguing tennis clashes on the big stage. However, not everyone in the tennis world feels the same. Recently, Serena Williams’ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, created chaos when he shared a totally different view, drawing a connection between tennis and the Olympic Games.

His opinions, however, didn’t sit well with Serena’s last coach, Rennae Stubbs, who is prepared to alter the French tennis coach’s viewpoint on including tennis in the Olympics, sparking a verbal exchange between the two tennis instructors. But this time, she provided accurate examples of the Olympic connections of a few tennis players, including Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Andre Agassi.

Serena Williams’ last coach fuels up the debacle with examples 

Recently, the 53-year-old French coach made a huge claim that Olympic gold means nothing to tennis players as compared to a Grand Slam title. Along with that, you also claimed that there is a lack of historical connection between tennis and the Olympics, causing many players to prioritize tour-level events over the Olympics.

But another coach, Rennae Stubbs, strongly disagreed with Mouratoglou’s assessment. And recently, came up with a plan to put strong examples up on the board to put the Frenchman’s assertion to rest. While earlier she shared her views regarding this same debacle, this time she has brought in an example including Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Andre Agassi.

The Australian coach took to her Twitter account to share a picture of the Swiss legend from the time when he won the doubles gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She wrote, “Do these guys look like they don’t  care about winning gold medals at the Olympics??”

In the same post, she also shared flashback moments of the 53-year-old American tennis legend when he won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. In a follow-up post, she also shared a picture of the Serbian tennis star when he managed to finish on top of the podium with the bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics.

Along with that, she mentioned, “Is this a guy that doesn’t care about playing and winning in the Olympics!??”

She made critical remarks about Mouratoglou’s perspective while citing a few tennis players who gave it their all to compete at the top of the Olympic games. Nevertheless, earlier she also stated a similar opinion to contradict Frenchman’s thoughts.

When Stubbs shared her opinion on Mouratoglou’s ‘Olympic’ perspective 

Just a day ago, the 52-year-old Australian coach took to her Twitter handle to showcase a few tennis players’ reactions after they won an Olympic gold medal. She wrote, “Here’s a few photos of recent gold medal winners at the Olympics. You tell me it means nothing to them.”

Subsequently, she also included a picture of the 22-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal, to challenge the Frenchman’s take. Moreover, in the other photos, it was Andrey Rublev, Belinda Bencic, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and Monica Puig from the moment they experienced gold medal glory at the Olympics.
