It is impossible to forget Roger Federer’s retirement in 2022 during his last tour representing Team Europe against Team World. Federer admitted to having retired because of his persistent knee injury. And now, there is another legend who is retiring from tennis very soon- Andy Murray. John Lloyd, a former professional tennis player and ex-husband of Chris Evert, hopes Andy Murray won’t have to say goodbye to the game the way Roger Federer did.
Andy Murray recently hinted at his retirement and talked about his last play on the tennis court in Miami. John Llyod wants Murray to have better “luck” than Roger Federer, who had difficulty even playing his last matches due to knee injuries.

Lloyd hopes Andy Murray’s retirement “doesn’t go the same way” as Roger Federer
The three-time Grand Slam champion Murray’s persistent hip injury since 2019 has made him hint at retirement after being ousted from the Miami Open a few days ago. Sending a shockwave among fans and sports enthusiasts, John Lloyd, Chris Evert’s ex-husband expressed a desire to have a farewell tour for Andy Murray, unlike Roger Federer. “I mean, we would have loved Federer to have had sort of some sort of a farewell tour and he didn’t you know because of the knee and I hope it doesn’t go the same way with Andy,” he said during “Tennis Channel Inside-In” podcast.
Roger Federer’s chronic knee condition, which kept him in rehab for the majority of his final three seasons and raised doubts about whether he could play one more doubles match, led him to retire under less-than-ideal circumstances. Referring to this, the former World No.1 said, “That’s, that’s there’s too much bad luck.”

Tennis enthusiasts are hoping that this same luck does not apply to Murray, who is also retiring owing to his injuries. Andy Murray has not given a concrete update about what his last game will be but has reiterated that he might not play past summer. Out of every match he’s played though, which stop on the tour is his favorite?

The tennis community is eager to see what happens next for Murray as his journey unfolds and hopes that a celebration of a legendary career which was not entirely possible in the times of Roger Federer will be done this time.
