Rohan Bopanna will be 43 years and 330 days old at the end of the Australian Open on Sunday. He’s currently showing the world why age is just a number. He reached the number 1 spot in doubles at the AO 2024 on 24th January partnering with the Australian, Matthew Ebden. Recently he even got praised by Serena Williams‘ ex-coach for his beautiful gesture.

Bopanna did something very similar against Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury last year. And, to repeat that class act yet again in a crucial semi-final match at the Australian Open is truly commendable according to Stubbs.

She wrote, Rohan Bopanna just called a violation on himself after hitting the net with his follow on a volley & omg I have so much respect for him! Big point, huge moment & no one but him would have known he hit the net there & he still called it on himself!! #lockerroomrespect always!”

Bopanna became the world number one for the very first time in his career. The duo has already reached their second consecutive Grand Slam finals on Thursday.

They defeated Zhang Zhizhen and Tomas Machac by 6-3,3-6,7-6(7) under the closed roof at the Rod Laver Arena. And here’s what Bopanna said after reaching the incredible milestones in his career in Australia this year.

“I want to thank my team who are here, they have definitely been through some tough moments. The career high was in 2013 and you know, you have got to keep going, what can you say? Never hold back, so thanks to all of them. And most of all thanks to my partner Matt, who I will get this ranking with. So, truly special and you know it is always going to be a fantastic memory here,” Rohan Bopanna in the on-court interview.

He had also added, “I think for every player out there, it is a dream, Bopanna said. “It was my dream, and more so when you’re playing the sport for a couple of decades. Then now at this juncture for me to get to World No. 1, I think my perseverance to the sport, to stay in it and to keep fighting and to keep working hard, and have such a great partner by my side — I think the consistent year we had last year is why… This helped me get to this stage.”
