Today is a sad day for Great Britain and other countries, as Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96. The news of her passing affected many sporting communities including the tennis world. After hearing the sad news, many former and current tennis players, including Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova, Johanna Konta, and others, took to social media and reacted with sadness.
According to a recent statement made by the social media handle of the Royal Family, the Queen died peacefully at Balmoral.

12-time Grand Slam champion, Billie Jean King took to Twitter and wrote, “I am saddened to learn of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. For 70 years, her leadership, impact, and influence on the United Kingdom and the entire global community has been immense. I met her in 2010 at Wimbledon, and it was a special moment for me.“
