As one of the most anticipated movies, ‘Barbie,’ has finally hit theatres, a slew of fans and casual moviegoers can’t keep quiet. All the buzz surrounding Greta Gerwig’s movie is quite justified given the stellar cast, exceptional cinematography, and the perfect portrayal of the iconic doll. In addition to a number of avid movie enthusiasts, even the tennis community has now succumbed to the ‘Barbie’ craze.

The popularity of the movie has transcended all boundaries and has piqued the interest of some of the prominent figures in the tennis circuit. Players like Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Taylor Fritz, Elina Svitolina,  Andy Murray, and many others are all part of the list. The tennis stars recently brought to light their own unique approach to the film as they named some ideal replacements for the cast of the protagonists, Barbie and Ken.

The tennis community picks their own ‘Barbie’ and ‘Ken’ for Greta Gerwig’s movie

The Hollywood star, Margot Robbie has flawlessly portrayed the doll’s iconic character while matching the pink-themed backdrop of the movie. And it is very much the same case with the 42-year-old actor, Ryan Gosling who has enthralled the audience with his lead role as the counterpart of Barbie, Ken. There is no denying that these exceptional stars gave outstanding performances in Greta Gerwig’s film.

However, the tennis community has now come forward with its own distinct approach to the movie’s protagonists. It was brought to light on social media, during the ongoing outdoor hard court event, Mubadala Citi DC Open. In an off-court conversation, the American tennis prodigy, Coco Gauff named her Spanish colleague, Paula Badosa as the perfect alternative for Barbie’s role. She said, “I would say Paula Badosa is the stereotypical Barbie. She has the Barbie look.”

Gauff’s compatriot, Jessica Pegula, on the other hand, had a different opinion on the same as she named the Greek tennis star, Maria Sakkari. She also revealed the reason behind her choice by labeling her on-court rival as “strong and athletic”.

Apart from Gauff and Pegula, the Ukrainian tennis star, Elina Svitolina also didn’t hold herself back from expressing her opinion as she named, “Sloane Stephens“. Another WTA player, Daria Kasatkina revealed her pick as she suggested the name of the Kazakhstani tennis beauty, Elena Rybakina.

The ATP stars candidly named some ideal alternatives for Ken’s role

When the conversation got switched to Barbie’s counterpart, Ken, the British tennis legend, Andy Murray said, the Italian, Matteo Berrettini could be the perfect replacement. The American tennis star, Chris Eubanks, on the other hand, had an interesting reason for his pick for Ken’s role after he named ‘Casper Ruud’.

The ATP player said that his colleague has an uncanny resemblance to the Canadian actor, Ryan Gosling. Even his compatriot, Taylor Fritz suggested the name of the Norwegian tennis player for the protagonist’s role.
