Serena Williams finally made a comeback to competitive action at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Prior to this, she last played at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, where she suffered a hamstring injury. Making a comeback after a year, she unfortunately lost in the first-round to Harmony Tan of France.

Even though Williams has been a prominent player in the game, her loss has opened the door for questions about her future on the tour. While some hope to see Serena back among the top WTA players soon, others feel it will be a difficult task for the 40-year-old. The former World No. 1, Andy Roddick, was the latest to give his views on this topic.
Andy Roddick gives his views on the future of Serena Williams
Following his retirement in 2012, Andy Roddick has been a regular participant in shows and podcasts focused on tennis. Recently, the former US Open champion appeared on the renowned podcast ‘Kasich & Klepper’. During the podcast, he opened up about the future of his compatriot, Serena Williams.
“…I don’t know about Serena. We haven’t seen her in a year. The last time we saw her, she kind of limped off of the Wimbledon Centre Court,” he started.
Prior to Wimbledon, Serena polished her skills by playing doubles with Ons Jabeur at the Eastbourne International. However, despite reaching the semifinals in doubles at Eastbourne, she failed to go past the first round at Wimbledon. Nevertheless, despite the loss, her fans and tennis enthusiasts were happy to see her back on the court.

Appreciating Serena for being strong enough to come back to the tour, Roddick further said, “She’s literally played two doubles matches in the small event in Eastbourne, the week before Wimbledon. I don’t’ know but I’ll tell you one thing. I’m happy to see her back. I’m happy to see her try.”

The dominance of Serena at Wimbledon
Despite suffering a first-round loss at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, Serena still remains a 7-time champion at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Statistically, her best performance in terms of Grand Slams. Like others, Roddick also has his doubts about Serena winning any more majors. However, he stressed that Serena will be always fancied to win at Wimbledon.

“If anyone can pull a rabbit out of that hat, it’s Serena. I don’t know if she could win at the other slams, but Wimbledon definitely gives her the best chance at this point of her career,” Roddick ended.
