Recently, 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer announced his retirement from tennis via a message on social media. In his message, he thanked his wife, Mirka Federer, for always supporting him through his ups and downs.

Back in 2019, he talked about Mirka, and how perfect she was as a wife. Interestingly, he also talked about marrying his only girlfriend while he took a dig at other players for changing their girlfriends or wives pretty often.

In an interview with AS, Swiss tennis star Roger Federer said, “As a player, it’s always good to have her because some players have a wife a year and then change her. Anything can make you happy but it can also distract you.“

“My life is perfect like that. I’ve always been in love with the same girlfriend, from the same wife, running the family and protecting them from the press,” Federer further said.

Speaking about Mirka keeping a low profile for many years, Federer said, “She hasn’t had an interview for 12 to 15 years, so people don’t know what she does.“

It is worth noting that Mirka and Roger met for the first time during the Summer Olympics in 2000, as they were both representing Switzerland. Since then, their romantic relationship began, and after dating for almost 8 years, they got married in 2009. Currently, they have four children; 2 sets of identical twins.

Meanwhile, Federer has already reached London to play the last match of his illustrious career. He had a good practice session with Stefanos Tsitsipas before the main event. Gradually, his Team Europe teammates, including Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, appeared on the court and greeted Federer.

On the other hand, Federer mentioned that he might play only one match in the tournament and i.e. the doubles match. Interestingly, he did mention playing with Rafael Nadal in his very last match. This news garnered many reactions on social media, as fans want the organizers to make this match happen.

Safe to say, this will be an emotional ride for Federer, as he recently talked about it. Also, it will be an emotional match for the fans in the stadium and all around the world. The Laver Cup will start on 23rd September in the O2 Arena in London.
