Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic equaled the record 22nd Grand Slam title of Rafael Nadal. The race to finish on the top is still on as both the players are still active and fans are absolutely loving their rivalry. While it was a great achievement, in the Women’s leg, Aryna Sabalenka defeated Wimbledon defending champion Elena Rybakina to lift her first Grand Slam title.

After Djokovic and Sabalenka won their respective finals, wishes poured in for them. The official Twitter account of Wimbledon also came up with a congratulatory post for Djokovic. However, there was no mention of Sabalenka’s achievement. Here’s what happened next.

Fans fume over Wimbledon’s ignorance as they wish only Novak Djokovic after Australian Open win
Notably, the final of women’s singles in the Australian Open concluded a day prior to the men’s final. Sabalenka earned her first major title and a day later Djokovic got his 22nd. The official Twitter handle of Wimbledon came up with a congratulatory post for the Serbian tennis great.

It had the special mention of Djokovic’s record-equaling achievement that brought him at par with Rafael Nadal. However, the fans were not happy that they didn’t write or post anything about Aryna Sabalenka winning the Women’s singles title. Here’s how fans reacted to it.

Although it is understandable that Djokovic is by far a greater player with a 22nd title, he is leading the race to end up as a GOAT Sabalenka deserved the applause too.

It also raises the question of double standards based on the gender of athletes. Or is it merely based on the popularity of the athletes? As we believe that Wimbledon would have never done such a thing if it had been for Serena Williams. The Belarusian nationality of Sabalenka that denied her an opportunity to play in the Wimbledon last year can also be a possible reason why Wimbledon kept mum over her achievement.
