The executive producer James Gay-Rees said in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press, “The changing of the guard is happening, the timing was really good, too. Because I love tennis, but I’m like, ‘Who is Tsitsipas?…But actually, you realize, My God, he’s No. 5 in the world…and he’s a really interesting guy. I’d like to know more about him.”

The motive of the show is thus clear- it is looking at bringing out some more players into the spotlight. Though tennis geeks and regular followers definitely keep a track of their favorites, outside the circle “for the last 15-20 years is, ‘Roger, Roger, Roger. Serena, Serena, Serena.’ For a reason, right? Obviously, we’re not disputing that, because they’re legends and icons. But I think it was really exciting shining a light on a new generation.”
The show aims at not just catching the attention of tennis enthusiasts, but even people who do not watch tennis at all.
