This week, the tennis world was dominated by Rafael Nadal, who made headlines for his comeback. However, his return didn’t last long, as the Spaniard went down fighting against Australia’s Alex de Minaur in straight sets. Subsequently, Nadal’s coach, Carlos Moya, made a candid revelation on his comeback. Elsewhere, women stars, Simona Halep and Emma Raducanu were also in the news.

Halep has returned to the court after her doping ban was reduced earlier this year. Raducanu, too, made a comeback from an injury that kept her out for the majority of the 2023 season. The two have caught the headlines with major updates for upcoming tournaments.

Although Nadal had a winning comeback, his journey at the Barcelona Open didn’t last long. Alex de Minaur got the better of him, prevailing 7-5, 6-1. He gave Nadal hardly any breathing space and was dominant right from the word go. After his defeat, Moya got candid and downplayed Nadal’s loss.

He said, “Believe it or not, I don’t care much if he wins or loses, I care more about him adding hours in court, adding sets, gaining that pace he needs.” Indeed, the Barcelona Open only acted as a warm-up tournament for Nadal and he has a bigger goal in sight with the French Open coming up. Meanwhile, talking about Roland Garros, British tennis star, Emma Raducanu will have to play a waiting game.

Emma Raducanu enters the French Open as an alternate

Recently, the French Open released the list of entries for the main draw. Raducanu, who is ranked 303 in the world, has entered the list with her protected ranking. The British tennis star can use this, as she was injured last year and missed many tournaments.

However, she is currently 5th on the alternates list and will need five withdrawals to make it to the main draw. As a result, the former US Open champion will have to wait till the very end to know about her French Open fate. While Raducanu missed last year’s edition in Paris, she’ll hope that she can make it to the main draw this time around and dig deep in the tournament.
