People are accustomed to seeing Novak Djokovic’s name in articles about titles and records. But of late, the Serbian tennis superstar has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Djokovic, who is unvaccinated, was deported from Down Under, a few days ahead of the Australian Open 2022. This came as a shock to his fans and followers, who were hoping to see him lift the trophy at Melbourne Park for the 10th time.

The way his visa debacle unfolded has stirred things up quite a lot. While some people agreed with the Australian Government, some protested that Djokovic was merely falling victim to a political crossfire.
Chris Evert shows support through tweet
There has been a rise in anti-Djokovic sentiments regarding the Serb’s Anti-vax stance and his actions ahead of the Australian Open 2022. But, the former world No. 1 and 18-time grand slam winning champion Chris Evert, recently made a tweet showing her support for Novak Djokovic.
She did this by retweeting a video by a Twitter user. The video is a montage with a voiceover listing down all the things that Djokovic has done to support the efforts against coronavirus.
She retweeted the video with the caption “The other side people need to see,” to show her appreciation for Djokovic silently helping so many people across the globe fight this pandemic.

Other players have also shown support for the tennis star, like Nick Kyrgios, Victoria Azarenka, and Justine Henin.

Novak Djokovic contributes to the fight against coronavirus
The video says that Djokovic donated money to the Italian government. He and his wife, Jelena, donated 1 million euros to buy equipment like ventilators and CT scanners, to fight the pandemic in Serbia. He also donated to Rafael Nadal’s fund. During the initial days of the pandemic, he urged pro players to support the ones struggling financially. He organized a vaccination drive for the players at the Serbian Open for free.

At the beginning of 2021, when terrible bushfires were ravaging Australia, Novak Djokovic reportedly donated $25,000 to the victims. He also agreed to a pay cut so that early-round losers could get the money.
