Former World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev has been one of the most dominant players on the Tour. The way he has performed at the Grand Slams over the past season has been simply outstanding.

Amongst the younger generation of players, Medvedev has emerged as a true face to carry the sport forward to greater heights. Sadly, due to the recent conflicts going on in the world, Russian players like Daniil, Andrey Rublev, and Karen Khachanov are just to name a few who are facing difficulties.

Daniil Medvedev has been on the receiving end lately 

Recently, former Grand Slam champion Chris Evert spoke on this topic. She felt it was unfair on the path of people to criticize these players and put hard restrictions on them. In the long run, this news will affect their game.

Speaking on this subject, Evert stated, “Medvedev is a great player, he deserved to be No. 1 because of his record, numbers don’t lie. I always feel like, in order to play your best tennis, you have to be in sync physically, emotionally, and mentally and if they’re going through these emotions it’s just hard to expect them to play their best tennis. It is such a distraction, and they just can’t give 100% on the court. I mean, I think that’s totally understandable.”

Coming to tennis, Daniil began the season in Australia. He had a brilliant tournament at the Australian Open and came as far as the final. In the final, he nearly won but faltered as Nadal fought back after being two sets down and won the next three sets.

Post that, he held the top spot of the ATP Rankings. Sadly, he was unable to hold the spot for long. At the moment, he is in the Miami Open and will be facing Andy Murray in his opening round match. We wish both players the best of luck.
