The two retired in 2022 and left a huge void in the tennis world. While their absence affected other tournaments, the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation’s President, Angelo Binaghi, revealed how the Italian Open remained unaffected by it.

Federer and Williams’ absence didn’t haunt the Italian Open

Last year the Italian Open, one of the premier clay-court tournaments, drew in massive crowds. Despite the big names like Federer and Williams missing, the tournament was a big success.

During an interview, Binaghi said, “The passion of the crowd now goes beyond the individual presences of the best players on the Tour. Of course, probably Nadal’s participation would have given a further boost to the box office. And the same would have guaranteed, during the tournament, a path extended by Jannik Sinner.”

Despite this claim, fans have duly missed watching Williams and Federer in action. However, the two are enjoying their retirement life and spending quality time with their families.
